Lotto Terminal

An iPadOS QR lottery-result checker

Archived2025.07Solo project

An iPadOS utility created to speed up checking lottery tickets at a retail counter. It extracts draw and ticket numbers from the QR-code URL, retrieves official winning numbers for that draw, then identifies matches and prize tiers. The core workflow was implemented, but the app was not adopted for day-to-day shop use.

Background & purpose

At a lottery counter, staff sometimes need to check customers’ tickets quickly. To reduce repetitive checks through a website, I built an iPad app that scans each ticket’s QR code and displays the winning status and prize tier for its games. The core workflow worked, but the app was not deployed for store operations.

01 / OVERVIEW

Overview

The goal was to reduce repetitive manual result checks for individual lottery tickets.

02 / MY CONTRIBUTION

My contributions

Solo project · Planning, iPadOS UI, QR scanning and result evaluation

01

Built the landscape iPad camera, instructions and result UI with SwiftUI

02

Scanned QR codes using AVFoundation

03

Parsed draw and game numbers from lottery QR URLs

04

Retrieved winning numbers through the official lottery API and evaluated prize tiers

05

Displayed results in a timed popup and reset for the next scan

03 / PROCESS

Approach

The camera scans a ticket's QR code, parses its URL, requests the draw's winning numbers from the official lottery API, and computes the prize tier. A result message appears briefly before the next scan.

Implementation and challenges

Parsed the QR URL format, validated API responses, and evaluated number matches. The workflow was not verified through real shop operations.

Key features

  • QR scanning and draw/number extraction
  • Winning-number lookup by draw
  • Per-game win and prize-tier detection
  • Timed result display and repeat scanning
